Janpath Metro Station

The Janpath metro station which comes on the Violet Line, of the metro, under its Phase III expansion program, caters to the busy crowd of the Yellow Line and also it provides faster entry to the Blue Line by way of connection the Mandi House and the Central Secretariat.  This station was inaugurated on 26th June 2014.


It is further noteworthy, to learn that during April 2013, a tunnel of 1,516 metre was due on the Mandi House-Janpath stretch of the Phase III Expansion project. The completion work of digging of the tunnel took around 182 days. This tunnel which is of 5.8 diameter; sees through many of the important places like American Center, Nepal Embassy, Fulbright House, Antriksh Bhawan, Scindia House and also Janpath Market. The other factors are:

  1. This new metro station is expected to dilute the overcrowding at Rajiv Chowk Metro station, which has more than 3, 00,000 commuting every day.

  2. This project of the Phase III would provide an extra 140 Kms to the overall net work of Delhi metro, thus covering around 75 per cent of the country’s capital.
